Find Grand County Booking Reports
Grand County booking reports are kept by the sheriff's office in Hot Sulphur Springs. This large mountain county in north-central Colorado includes popular recreation areas like Winter Park, Granby, and Grand Lake. Tourism drives much of the local economy, and the sheriff's office deals with a range of arrests year-round. The Grand County Sheriff's Office manages the county jail and creates booking reports for every person processed through the facility. No online inmate search is available, but you can call the sheriff's office or use Colorado's statewide databases to look up booking information from Grand County.
Grand County Quick Facts
Grand County Sheriff Booking Information
The Grand County Sheriff's Office operates the county detention facility. The office is located at 670 Railroad Avenue in Hot Sulphur Springs. You can reach them at 970-725-3343. All local arrests end up at this facility for booking. Deputies and officers from across the county bring people to the jail, where staff create the booking report. The report captures the person's identity, the charges, the date and time, and which agency made the arrest.
Grand County covers about 1,870 square miles and includes towns like Granby, Winter Park, Kremmling, and Grand Lake. None of these towns are large enough to have their own booking facilities. Everything funnels through the sheriff's office. During ski season and summer vacation months, the number of arrests tends to go up because of the tourist traffic. DUI arrests are particularly common on the mountain roads. The Grand County Sheriff's website has details on contacting the office and basic jail information.
Note: Tourist seasons can cause higher arrest volumes, which may slow down records request processing times.
Request Grand County Booking Records
To get a booking report from Grand County, call 970-725-3343 and ask for records. Give the staff the person's name and an approximate date. They can check the system while you are on the phone and provide basic booking details. For a formal copy, submit a written request. Colorado's Criminal Justice Records Act at C.R.S. § 24-72-301 gives the public the right to inspect these records. The sheriff must respond within 3 business days.
In-person requests are accepted during regular hours at the Hot Sulphur Springs office. If you live far from the county seat (and most people in Grand County do, since the population is spread across a vast area), a phone call or email is more practical. Under C.R.S. § 24-72-302, the booking report must include the person's name, charges, arresting agency, and the date and place of arrest. The sheriff's office has to share this data when asked. The first hour of staff time is free. Anything beyond that costs up to $41.37 per hour. Copies are $0.25 per page.
You also need to sign a statement saying you won't use the records for direct business solicitation for money. This is standard for all CCJRA requests in Colorado.
Colorado Statewide Search Tools
The CBI criminal history check at $6.85 per search covers all 64 counties. Grand County bookings get submitted to CBI by the sheriff's office. A new booking may take a few days to appear, but older records should be in the system already. The CBI check shows charges, case dispositions, and the agencies involved in the arrest. This is a good option if you cannot reach the Grand County Sheriff's Office directly or if you want a statewide search.
The Colorado Attorney General's office provides guidance on CORA and CCJRA policy for agencies and the public alike, as shown in the screenshot below.
This resource explains the rules agencies must follow when handling records requests, which is helpful to know before you submit yours.
VINE is another free option. It lets you search for inmates by name across Colorado. Sign up for alerts and get notified when the person's status changes. VINE covers the Grand County jail along with most other county detention facilities in the state. The toll-free number is 1-888-263-8463. The CDOC offender search covers state prison inmates only. If a Grand County arrest led to a state prison sentence, that person would show up in the CDOC database.
Booking Photo Rules and Sealed Records
Booking photos from Grand County are public. You can get a copy through a records request. But Colorado law under C.R.S. § 24-72-305.5 makes it illegal to post booking photos online and charge people to have them removed. That is a misdemeanor with fines up to $1,000. The law targets mugshot extortion sites and applies to photos from all Colorado counties.
Sealed records are completely off limits. Colorado allows courts to seal arrest records under certain conditions, such as when charges are dismissed or the person is acquitted. The CBI also has automatic sealing for cases where no charges are filed within a specific window. If a Grand County booking record has been sealed, it will not show up anywhere and the sheriff's office cannot give it to you.
