Eagle County Booking Report Lookup
Eagle County booking reports are held by the sheriff's office in Eagle, Colorado, a mountain county that includes the resort town of Vail and other communities along the Interstate 70 corridor. The county sees both year-round residents and a large number of visitors. All arrests within Eagle County are processed at the county jail, and the booking records created during that process are public documents. This page explains how to find and request booking records, what search tools are available, and how Colorado law protects your right to see these records.
Eagle County Quick Facts
Eagle County Sheriff's Office Records
The Eagle County Sheriff's Office operates the county detention facility and processes all bookings. Whether an arrest is made by a sheriff's deputy, the Vail police, the Avon police, or the Colorado State Patrol, the booking happens at the county jail. During the booking process, staff take fingerprints, a photograph, and record all the arrest details. That information becomes part of the booking report.
Eagle County does not currently offer a public online inmate search tool. To check on a booking, call the sheriff's office at 970-328-8500. Give the staff the name of the person you are looking for. A date of birth or approximate arrest date helps them find it quicker. You can also visit the sheriff's office in Eagle during regular business hours. The county is big enough that booking inquiries are fairly common, and the records staff are used to handling them.
Because Eagle County draws a lot of visitors (especially during ski season), arrests sometimes involve out-of-state residents. The booking process is the same regardless of where the person lives. The record is kept by the Eagle County Sheriff's Office.
Statewide Search Tools for Eagle County
Two state-level systems can help with Eagle County booking searches. VINE is a free service that lets you look up inmates in county jails across Colorado. Search by name to see if someone is being held at the Eagle County jail. If they are, you can register for alerts that come by phone, email, or text whenever the person's custody status changes. VINE is available 24 hours a day. The toll-free number is 1-888-263-8463.
The CBI Internet Criminal History Check costs $6.00 per search. It pulls arrest records from all 64 Colorado counties. Eagle County bookings are included. You type in a name and get a report showing arrest dates, charges, the arresting agency, and dispositions. This tool is helpful when you want to see a full picture of someone's arrest history across the state.
The CBI records check is available online and covers arrest data from every Colorado county.
The CBI provides criminal history checks that include arrest and booking data from Eagle County and the rest of Colorado.
Note: VINE shows current custody status. The CBI check shows past arrests. For the most current information, try VINE first, then the CBI for history.
Eagle County Booking Records and the Law
Colorado's Criminal Justice Records Act guarantees public access to booking reports. Under C.R.S. 24-72-301, records of official actions including arrests must be open for inspection. You do not need to explain why you want to see the records. The Eagle County Sheriff's Office must respond to your request within 3 working days, with a possible extension of 7 more working days for larger requests.
C.R.S. 24-72-302 defines what arrest records contain. The law lists the person's name, date of birth, sex, the arresting agency, the date and place, and the charges. All of that appears on a standard Eagle County booking report. This law applies to every county in the state.
Eagle County Records Request Fees
Colorado law sets the fee schedule. The first hour of research and retrieval is free. After that, Eagle County can charge up to $33.58 per hour. Paper copies cost $0.25 per page. For a simple request involving one booking report, you will almost certainly stay within the free first hour. More complex requests that cover multiple records or a long time period could go over.
Before the search begins, you can ask for an estimate of what it will cost. That way there are no surprises. You also have to sign a statement saying you will not use the records for direct solicitation of business for monetary gain. This is a statewide rule under the CCJRA.
The VINE search is always free. The CBI check is a flat $6.00 regardless of results.
Booking Photos and Sealed Records
Booking photos from Eagle County are public records you can request through the sheriff's office. Colorado law at C.R.S. 24-72-305.5 restricts how those photos can be used. Publishing them on a website and charging for removal is a misdemeanor. The fine goes up to $1,000. This targets pay-to-remove mugshot websites, not regular records requests.
Record sealing can remove a booking report from public access. The CBI automatically seals arrest records when no charges are filed within one year, for arrests after January 1, 2022. A court can also seal records by petition. Once sealed, an Eagle County booking record is no longer available. The sheriff cannot release it and the CBI check will not show it. Juvenile records are also not public.
Note: If you cannot find a record that you believe should exist, it may have been sealed. Ask the Eagle County Sheriff's Office whether the record is available for release.
