Windsor Booking Reports
Booking reports for Windsor go to either the Weld County or Larimer County sheriff, depending on which side of the county line the arrest took place. Windsor straddles the border between these two counties in northern Colorado. The Windsor Police Department handles law enforcement for the whole city, but when they make an arrest, the county where it happened takes over the booking. This page walks you through how to search for Windsor booking data at both county sheriff offices and through statewide databases.
Windsor Quick Facts
Two Counties Handle Windsor Bookings
Windsor is one of several Colorado cities that spans two counties. The majority of the city sits in Weld County, but a growing portion on the west side falls in Larimer County. When the Windsor police arrest someone, the booking goes to whichever county the arrest took place in. Weld County arrests go to the Weld County Jail in Greeley. Larimer County arrests go to the Larimer County Jail in Fort Collins. The booking report stays with that county from that point on.
Most Windsor addresses fall in Weld County, so the Weld County Sheriff processes the bulk of Windsor bookings. The Larimer County side of Windsor has seen more development in recent years, which means more Larimer County bookings than there used to be. If you are not sure which county handled a particular arrest, the Windsor Police Department can tell you. Call them at 970-674-6400.
Note: The county line roughly follows CR 13 through Windsor. Addresses west of that line are generally in Larimer County.
Weld County Booking Records
The Weld County Sheriff's Office posts daily arrest reports online. Go to apps.weld.gov/sheriff/DailyArrests to see recent bookings. The page lists names, charges, arresting agency, and booking dates. If the Windsor Police Department shows up as the arresting agency, that is a Windsor arrest that went through Weld County. You can browse by date and scan the list for the person you are looking for.
The Weld County daily arrest page does not have a search-by-name feature. You browse the list instead. For a more targeted search, call the Weld County Sheriff at 970-356-4015 and ask the records division to look up a specific person. They can search by name in the full database, which goes back further than the daily arrest page shows. Include the person's date of birth and the approximate arrest date if you have that information.
The Weld County Jail is in Greeley, about 20 miles east of Windsor. It is a large facility that handles bookings from all over the county, including Windsor, Greeley, Evans, and many smaller towns. Booking staff process each arrest with fingerprints, a photo, and a full entry of charges into the county system.
Larimer County Booking Records
For Windsor arrests on the Larimer County side, the booking goes to the Larimer County Jail in Fort Collins. The Larimer County Sheriff posts booking reports on its website at larimer.gov/sheriff/jail/booking-report. This page shows recent bookings with names, charges, and booking times. Look for entries where the arresting agency is the Windsor Police Department to find Windsor-specific arrests processed by Larimer County.
The Larimer County booking report page is updated frequently. It covers recent bookings from across the county including Fort Collins, Loveland, Estes Park, and Windsor. For older booking records, contact the Larimer County Sheriff. The jail in Fort Collins is roughly 15 miles northwest of Windsor. Staff there can search past booking data by name and provide copies of records when they are available.
Note: Larimer County's online booking report page is one of the more detailed in Colorado. It often includes more information than basic inmate search tools at other counties.
Statewide Search for Windsor Records
When you are not sure which county holds a Windsor booking report, the CBI criminal history check at cbirecordscheck.com is a good tool. It costs $6.85 per search and covers all of Colorado. The CBI collects arrest and booking data from every county sheriff in the state. For Windsor, this means you can find records from both Weld County and Larimer County in a single search. It saves time when you do not know which side of the city the arrest was on.
The Colorado Department of Corrections offender search at doc.state.co.us/oss is free and covers anyone in state prison. It does not show county jail bookings, but if someone from Windsor went from county jail to state prison, this tool can find them. Between the county-level searches, the CBI check, and the CDOC tool, you have multiple ways to track down booking information from Windsor arrests.
Windsor Booking Report Access Laws
Colorado's Criminal Justice Records Act at C.R.S. 24-72-301 makes booking reports public records. Both Weld County and Larimer County must follow this law. When you request a booking report from a Windsor arrest, the county has 3 working days to respond. Extensions up to 7 more working days are possible. The first hour of research is free. After that, charges can reach $41.37 per hour. Copies cost $0.25 per page.
Under C.R.S. 24-72-302, arrest records must include the person's name, the charges, and the date and place of the arrest. This applies to all Windsor bookings at both county jails. You can also track inmates from Windsor through VINE at no cost. Register online or call 1-888-263-8463 for alerts on custody status changes at either jail.
Under C.R.S. 24-72-305.5, booking photos from Windsor arrests are public. Posting them online behind a removal paywall is illegal in Colorado. Sealed records will not appear in any search. Colorado allows people to petition courts to seal certain arrest records, and the CBI seals some records on its own when charges are never filed.
